I have worked with children of all ages since 2004 in various organisations and roles. Before entering the world of Psychotherapy it, was important for me to have both an understanding, and knowledge of the various children’s organisations and support that is currently available. I have worked for the Police, local authorities, the NHS, education and voluntary sectors in a range of localities. This experience has provided me with an in depth understanding and experiences of working with children and adolescents with mild to complex concerns.
Academic and Training Background:
In 2002, I completed my degree in Human Geography at Queen Mary’s University, followed by a diploma in Child Protection in 2008. After further research, I decided to undertake a course in Psychology at Open University and an intensive course in Integrative Psychotherapy at Regent’s College. In 2012, I successfully completed my MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy for Children and Adolescents. Please have a look at my Services page for further information about the kind of help I can offer.
As part of my training, I successfully completed a work placement at a primary school (providing play therapy). I also accessed therapy for myself, and chose to continue it after I finished my MSc. Having first-hand experience of psychodynamic psychotherapy, I am an advocator of its benefit and trust this process immensely.
Experiencing such an intensive journey, academically, professionally and personally, has provided me with a firm grounding and the capability to confidently have my own private practice. I continue to work for the Children and Adolescents Mental Health Service (NHS-CAMHS), as I have a strong commitment to the service. Working in this multi-disciplinary team, I hope to ensure that my private practice is on par with the CAMHS. Should my client's needs become complex/severe or require psychiatric intervention, then information can be shared easily (with client and parent's/guardian's consent) so that the child’s needs are always at the forefront.
Children feeling safe
My professional experience and my own development have helped many young people feel safe and comfortable to talk about their issues with me. I am also very clear to my clients and parents/guardians about boundaries, confidentiality and most importantly following safeguarding protocols. The result is that the client, parent/guardian and I, all feel safe working in this framework together, which is an integral part of the therapeutic process.
Continuing Professional Development
I am a keen believer in professional development and enjoy attending courses that further enhance my learning and experience. I regularly have supervision which meets the essential requirements of the BACP framework (BACP LINK to access site).
My mission for the children I support is to feel empowered in themselves. I do this by providing a secure therapeutic space for children to explore their vulnerabilities/ concerns and to find their way out.
My professional networks, clients, friends and family will describe me as extremely enthusiastic, caring, committed and driven to help young people, especially when dealing with mental health issues.
